MEAGHAN WILLIAMS

Visual artist

Meaghan Williams is a young emerging Adelaide artist. Inspired by the reuse of the everyday paper objects, through experimenting with cuts and folds her work is an exploration of the altered states of the manmade world of paper – consciously transforming a typically ordinary and disposable medium – maps, envelopes, paint samples, stamps, magazines – into a long term piece of art.

.

Working intimately and delicately with such a familiar material is such an unlikely context and creates compositions of pattern, print, symbolism, perspectives and memories. “Paper is such a humble yet emotive medium, as its common attributes provoke curiosity and amazement from what appears to be such a simple found thing”.

.
Her love of the consistencies and contradictions of paper – fragile yet strong, ordinary yet unique, simple yet complex, allows her handcrafted pieces to reveal a process of understanding that lets the viewer see everyday realities and routines with new awareness and appreciation.
