SYLVY EARL MILLINERY
ASK A CREATIVE
Q & A with Sylvy Earl
A bit about Sylvy:
While living and working in Brisbane as a physio, I enrolled in a night time millinery course on a whim and ended up loving it even more than I imagined I would. After moving back to my hometown of Adelaide a couple of years ago, I decided to make the transition to full time millinery.
Tell us something we might not know about millinery.
Coco Chanel and Bill Cunningham were both milliners before becoming better known for fashion and photography.
What’s the best career advice anyone’s given you/ or what advice would you give to someone starting out in a creative career?
The best business advice I’ve been given is to just go all in! Give it everything you’ve got for the best chance of success.
What have you found most valuable about operating out of a coworking studio space like Brick+Mortar?
I have been lucky enough to get to know some really lovely and talented designers, makers and small business whiz’s during my time here at Brick+Mortar, and love that I am part of such a supportive, creative community and all the professional benefits and opportunities that brings.
What’s your favourite app and why?
I have just started playing with the Lumosity app. A super nerdy, brain training game that is supposed to improve memory and attention, but definitely doesn’t do much for productivity!
What’s your go-to order at Brick+Mortar cafe?
A piccolo and a slice of whatever has been freshly baked in-house that morning.
