Born and raised in Estonia, and now living in South Australia, Irina continues to grow as an artist of multiple mediums. Having previously focussed on portraits, her hand painted botanical works are a reaction and response to the plethora of beauty existent in Australia’s natural environment, a contrast to Irina’s homeland where it is a ‘snowy Narnia’ for almost half the year.
Irina has shown her large scale paintings on ply as a solo exhibition at Brick+Mortar and we stock a range of her prints and cards, works that represent imagined and re-envisaged flowers.
Irina references ‘a breadth of vision and space that hints at middle era tapestry art, two dimensional mythical art and concoctions of dreamed up plants from another planet or of existing in distant time’ and ‘the direct observation of the here and now planted and stamped on wood’.
